Starting October 1, Google is changing how it bills Local Services Ads.

According to reporting from Homepros, missed calls during your listed business hours will now count as billable leads if the caller stays on the line more than 20 seconds, and qualifying follow-up calls can be billed too.

Google says the change is meant to cut down on spam and robocalls, rolling out across every vertical LSA supports, home services included.

The short version for operators

A missed call used to be just a missed opportunity. Starting in October, it can also count as a billable lead, even when a later callback is what connects.

Every call during business hours now carries two outcomes: whether you book the job, and whether it counts against your ad spend.

Responding consistently becomes critical.

Respond to every lead, no matter the channel

The best way to stay ahead of this is the same thing Google rewards: responding fast and responding always.

Google LSA x Avoca AI

An LSA listing gives homeowners three ways to reach you, and Avoca now covers all three:

  • Call. Avoca's AI CSR answers every inbound call, instantly, 24/7. No gap during business hours for a missed-call charge to happen.
  • Quote request. Avoca's Speed-to-Lead responds the moment someone requests a quote, using Google's native GLSA messaging API. Google sees that response time and factors it into ranking, exactly the responsiveness this policy is designed to reward.
  • Book online. Customers can now click “Book” right on your LSA listing and land in Avoca’s Simple Scheduler. They see real availability and pick a time in the flow. Simple Scheduler already books at 3x the rate of legacy schedulers.

Consistently fast responses also improve your overall ranking in Google's algorithm.

The bottom line

You’re already paying for these leads. Under this update, how often you respond determines whether a lead is a booked job or a billable miss.

Avoca covers all three LSA channels at once, so every call, text, and booking request has the best shot at turning into a job.
